COLLABORATION SUBJECTS

The language  assistant  collaborates in the area of  Knowledge of the Natural, Social and Cultural Environment. They help teachers to prepare the content in English language and they also help to teach them, creating a very enriching aducational environment to learn a foreing language.

At the begining of the school year, the language assistant attends several Natural and Social Science classes as an observer. This will allow you  to familiarize yourself with:

- The actual linguistic competence of each class.

- The teaching methodology.

- The attention to diversity.

- Classroom management.

SCHEDULE OF THE LANGUAGE ASSISTANT

The language assistant has 12 hours a week  from Monday to Thursday, plus 2 hours of training in Spanish language and culture. The assistant’s timetable has to be coordinated taking into account the schedule of the teachers involved.

Our school has 14 groups  from first grade (6 years)  to sixth grade (12 years). The assistants' timetables will be distributed in these groups until their timetables are completed (12 hours per week).

INFORMATION ABOUT THE TOWN

Estepa is a municipality in the extreme south-east of the province of Seville. It has about 12,500 inhabitants. The town is located North of the Sierra del Becerro mountains.

In Estepa there have been almost all ancient civilizations, leaving traces of its culture.
Its strategic and advantageous position, near important roads are explained in these settlements .

Estepa is famous for different reasons. Chiefly it is renowned for the biscuits known as polvorones and mantecados which are made each Christmas and are traditionally eaten in a lot of countries of the world

You will be surprised by some of the unique things to do and places you can explore at our town. (A little more about Estepa)

You can definitely  plan a few hours of a side trip here while traveling to Seville Malaga, Cordoba or Granada.

So, let me suggest you come to live in Estepa. That’s what language assistants usually do. It is much easier economically speaking, since you don’t need any kind of transportation and the rents are much cheaper than in Seville, Córdoba, Málaga and other Andalucian cities.

As they all have to work just for days a week, they can devote those long weekends to visit the big cities nearby. Estepa is well connected to those cities since we have a highway leading directly to them.

Also, by coming to live to a town, and not a larger city, you will be able to get an authentic Spanish immersion which is quite difficult to get if you are living in a big city.

Another little more about Estepa

But, apart from that, you are going to have quite a lot of free time in your evenings. Let me suggest some leisure activities (which by the way are mostly free and some may even help you make an extra income). Here we go:

·         Do you play any musical instrument? There is a quite active concert band in Estepa. There are some concerts during the year.  Apart from the concert band, there is a music school, so you may as well register for some lessons (they are not free but you just have to pay like 50 euros for the whole year)

·         Do you like sports? Basketball? Football? Tennis? Paddle?Skateboarding? You can practise any of these sports at the Sports Centre (which is almost touching our school) and other local facilities. There is a broader selection of sports

·         Do you like reading? Our librarians Dámasa and Manolo will be delighted to get you a Library Card and to show you the library collection. You can borrow up to four books for two weeks. Reading children’s and young adults literature in Spanish will help you improve your Spanish a lot.

·         Seeing movies? We have a small and cute cinema where movies are shown at a very competitive price (4 euros).

GETTING TO SCHOOL.

You don’t need any kind of transportation. You can go on foot, because  everything  is nearby in our town ( less than one kilometer).

ACCOMMODATION.

Usually we help our assistants find accommodation, by either sharing a flat with other language assistants, or living on their own.

Another important aspect is you can eat at the canteen of our School, for free!. You would just have to help the teachers serve food to the kids and then after the kids' shift you had lunch with the teachers (which provided them with a great opportunity to socialise and to practise your Spanish). The food is very good. Homemade.

CONTACT WITH OTHER LANGUAGE ASSITANTS.

We will pass you their email  so you can contact them.
